The partner parishes of St. Mary and St. John encourages its parishioners to participate in organizations in which we are affiliated. For more information about the organizations listed below, please contact the parish office.
Christian Mothers: A spiritual, service and social group for Catholic women; held the second Monday of the month to pray the rosary and meet.
Knights of Columbus (KOC): A spiritual, service and social group for Catholic men; held the second Wednesday of the month to pray the rosary and meet.
Hospital Visitation: Volunteers willing to visit parishioners in local hospitals during their stay.
Evangelization: People interested in spreading the good news of Christ in the parish and the community, through a range of programs and activities. Volunteers must be fully initiated in the Roman Catholic Church, in good standing and who live their lives according to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Notes of Friendship: Send greeting cards at various times throughout the year to our homebound parishioners.
Stewardship Committee: Responsible for stewardship awareness. Carry out stewardship effort annually; prepare and maintain list of current parish activities, ministries, and organizations; ensure volunteers are contacted and asked to be involved; and publicize stewardship thoughts/reflections throughout the year.
Hands of Friendship: Volunteers willing to extend our parish community to Clelian Heights via special activities and events
Mercy Meals: Volunteers willing to prepare and serve the luncheon following the funeral of a parishioner or a member of their immediate family. Also needed are people willing to supply desserts and dishes even if unable to assist in the actual meal preparation.
Social Committee: Plans and provides social events for members of the parish throughout the year that allow the opportunity to meet with and enjoy each other’s company, and to support the idea of community within the parish.
Partner Parish Picnic Committee: Established to plan and sponsor the annual partner parish picnic whose purpose is to build community, to bring new families and old families together in a setting where they have a chance to meet, share and grow closer together.
Christmas Pilgrimage: During the first and second weekends of December, Christmas in Salem Crossroads is presented at Shield’s Farm in Delmont. The pilgrimage presents the story of Christ’s birth through a walking tour of living vignettes enacted on the farm. Each church in the community participates in this event and welcomes these pilgrims to their churches. Volunteers are needed to greet our visitors, assist in bus loading and serve refreshments. Actors and guides are also needed.
Welcome Committee: These volunteers contact and extend greetings to new parishioners of our partner parishes.
Respect for Life: Activities include Respect for Life Sunday, Cradle for Life and other special activities to promote the sanctity of life in our world.
Prayer Chain: Various studies have shown prayer to be a positive force behind healing the sick as a link between those on earth and the communion of saints in heaven. This ministry responds to the needs of others through prayer.
First Friday Adoration: On the first Friday of each month, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is offered at St. Mary from 12:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Volunteers should be willing to spend 30 minutes or more in silent adoration; all are welcome.
Funeral Vigil Ministry: Lead a prayer service at the Funeral Home and extend the condolences of the parish staff and family by praying with the family and friends of the deceased.
